Vladimir Horvat Collection

The collection contains photographs, negatives, photo albums, photographic equipment and personal items of Vladimir Horvat.

Vladimir Horvat started his career in 1920s. He published his first works in 1928 in Svijet magazine. In 1919, he was employed in the newsroom at Novosti, first as a clerk in the administration, after which from 1929 to 1941 he worked as a journalist, photojournalist and editorial secretary. It was during this period that his series of documentary photographs was created, which he used to record social conditions of that time and thanks to which, together with Toše Dabac, he is regarded as the instigator of Croatian social photography. From 1941 to 1945, he was the secretary of the Nova Hrvatska newsroom, and after the WWII he worked for Narodni list/Vjesnik. From 1932 he was an active member of the Zagreb Photography Club, with which he exhibited at national and international exhibitions.
